Maja Kozel Design is an award-winning spatial design boutique firm based in the United Arab Emirates. Maja Kozel is a passionate principal designer of Dutch origins who holds a degree in spatial design from the prestigious Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam the Netherlands.

Kozel has worked in Europe, Asia and the Middle East and has been working in Dubai since 2008 on various projects throughout the UAE. The discipline of Spatial Design crosses boundaries of architecture, interior design, landscape, service design and public art. The boutique firm, has worked on a variety of indoor and outdoor Spaces, which includes interior design, furniture design, product design and exhibition design. “At Maja Kozel Design, we pride ourselves on being sensitive designers and designing for the people and their needs, rather than following a certain trend or style.”

We aim for a social impact through our designs and inspire not just the users, but also the next generation of designers. Maja loves being involved with design students and was volunteering at the Student Design Challenge two years in a row. She has reviewed student work at the American University of Sharjah, the Ajman University, and the Heriot-Watt University. Lately Maja Kozel has been invited to be a part of the Industrial Advisory Board (IAB) at the Ajman University of science and technology.

Repurposing, recycling, and preserving is an important element of the firms design process. A good example of implementing these values is their continuous participation in the design competition by Surge for water, which focuses on sustainable product designs. In 2017 together with Hernan Hoentsch, they won the Overall Competition award 2017 for their lighting Design TUBO. In 2016 Maja won the highly commended and most sustainable awards for the cabinet design for Surge for Water.

Through hard work and dedication, Maja Kozel has made well-esteemed name for herself in the industry while their portfolio continues to grow. Including projects as the HQ office design of Booking.com Dubai, The HQ office design of the Heart of Sharjah, the HQ office design of Shurooq Sharjah Investment and development authorities and one of Maja’s personal favorites; a music studio in Dubai. Maja Kozel has been invited to be part of the judging panels for the CID awards in 2016, which together with a team of professionals she reviewed and discussed the projects that were submitted. Kozel is regularly involved with projects with both the Netherlands Consulate in Dubai and the Netherlands Embassy in Abu Dhabi. She was a part of the installation #EMO_DCI during the Dubai Design Week in 2016, that was commissioned by the RVO in the Netherlands (Netherlands Enterprise Agency) as part of the DCI.
